This week AES hosted the 4th annual Pine Creek School Division Cardio in the Park afternoon. All students in grade 1 and 2 in the school division come together for an afternoon of dancing, socializing, great music and a healthy snack.
This was the 3rd year that children's entertainer Aaron Burnett joined us for a pre-concert in the gym and then came to play for us while we danced in the park. Check out Aaron on his website and on iTunes.
Each year I pick songs and create dances for the students to practice before coming to Cardio in the Park. I then send them out to all the phys. ed. teacher to practice with the kids. In previous years, I have just sent out papers with instructions for each dance. This year, I got a little more tech savvy and recorded myself doing the dances on YouTube. In the past year, all gyms in our division have had projectors installed so teachers could just play the videos for the students to follow along with to learn the dances. A simple change but made things so much easier.
We ended up having a beautiful weather for our day. The kids were able to walk 15 minutes to the park for a picnic and time to play before dancing the afternoon away!!
How about you? How do you celebrate dance?
